When the word happiness comes to mind, everyone starts thinking about himself living in a mansion, having infinite money, having everything that he could or couldn't need, but is this really what happiness is?
The human being is by nature, a happiness seeker, he seeks happiness everywhere he goes, and most of human being's actions and motives are because he constantly seeks happiness.
So if we'd really seek happiness and put it as a goal of ours, we must firstly differentiate between "Pleasure" and "Happiness"
Pleasure is all that you think the money could get, a fancy car, a mansion, traveling to other countries, etc .......
One thing you must know about pleasure is that it's temporary, so temporary in fact, and I could remember when I thought after buying ........ and told myself I'll be the happiest one ever if I got it, I could remember that after less than a week it was more than a normal thing.
So, pleasure? It can't be the thing we're searching for, because pleasure fades away, it just goes, it isn't meant to be always here.
So I'll tell you what happiness consists of, and how could you achieve it.
I know that every one of us has a specific definition for happiness in our mind, and that's normal, but what is common for all of us whether we know it or not, is that happiness consist %50+ of "Gratitude"
This is the weird truth that still people might not believe, that really a person could have over 1 Billion dollars, and still feel that he is poor, and we wrote much about this topic under # Who is the poor ( and I really wish that you'll check this article out as it might be complementary and will strengthen your understanding)
So if you have everything and you're not grateful about it, I promise that you'll feel like the most miserable in this life, and if you have absolutely nothing but you're grateful for even being provided a chance in this life to make it better, I promise you'll feel like you have everything, and you'll be happier than most rich people.
I could summarize the article I referred to as:
Being poor has nothing to do with money, feeling poor comes from having a desire you can't fulfill, so it starts with you, not with money, and two people might pass by a mansion, one would say it might be good to live here, and the other won't stop thinking a second about the mansion he just saw, the first one thought of it as "It's good to have it but it's never bad not to, I'm already living well" but the other had different feelings, he thought of it as: "This ***** must be living the happiest life anyone could, and I'll never be happy as him except when I have my own mansion"
So the second one was very poor, the first was very rich, even tho they both can't afford the mansion.
Now we covered: [Pleasure-Happiness-Gratitude-Why someone might be poor]
The last thing is, how to be more grateful to be happier?
Allah says:
Which translates to: And ˹remember˺ when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will certainly give you more. But if you are ungrateful, surely My punishment is severe.’”
So this is a clear promise from God that if we are grateful, God will give us more, and being grateful starts by thanking God for all the blessings we have, and all those we might not have, we all have endless blessings that we can't even count, when you start thanking God for those blessings, two things happen:
1) Allah (God) gives you more, as God promised us in the verse mentioned above, so thanking god has a direct relation with having more, and being provided more.
2) When you really start thanking God for all the blessings, the ones that other people miss and wish to have, all the good things provided, you'll know then that really you have endless blessings, that you can't even count, as Allah (God) says: "وَإِن تَعُدُّوا۟ نِعْمَةَ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُحْصُوهَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَغَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ" This translates to: If you tried to count Allah’s blessings, you would never be able to number them. Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
So to wrap this up, if you're seeking happiness, seek being grateful, because more than half of happiness is found in gratitude, and to be grateful you need to start thanking God for all the blessings you have, when you start doing this, you start realizing how perfect your life is, and you shift your focus on what you have, instead of what you don't.
So I hope this was helpful, and I wish you a grateful soul, a happy life, and a great journey, and thanks for your precious time :)
